We all dream about that perfect dress that looked fantastic on a professional model we saw in a magazine and which will look even better on us. How many times have you seen something on a mannequin at your favorite store and when you tried it on it looked horrible on you? I don’t know about you, but to me it happens a lot. That’s because all of us are shaped differently and what looks fantastic on one person wouldn’t necessarily look flattering on another. Ladies, the secret is simple! It is not about the perfect dress, it is about the dress fitting you perfectly. Oscar de la Renta once said that a wedding dress is the most important dress in a woman’s life. The focus should not only be on picking a gorgeous dress, but also making sure that the gorgeous dress fits YOU perfectly. Ever since I started La Demure Wraps, I have observed hundreds of women trying on gowns. Once in a while, I go to one of La Demure’s partner boutiques and simply observe. You have no idea how many women make the same mistake over and over again by picking a gown that doesn’t flatter them at all. When you are picking a gown as important as your wedding gown, you need to make sure that when you put it on, you and your gown become whole. To achieve that, you need to understand your body shape and what type of dresses will flatter you the most.
There are 5 female body shapes. Actually, there are more, but there are 5 main ones: hourglass, pear, inverted triangle, rectangle, and apple. I found the picture below in the article “Body Shape 101” written by Frost Magazine, which helps you figure out what your body type is. To help you validate your body shape, below is a brief description of each one.
Hourglass shape is what is considered a classic and most desired body shape. The figure is usually round and curvy. Women who have this body type have a fuller chest, hips, and a well-defined waist.
Pear shaped body is the most common among women. Hips are usually a lot wider than shoulders. In other words, the hip measurement is greater than the bust measurement.
Inverted triangle is the opposite of the pear shaped body. Here you would have broader shoulders and narrow hips with straight waist.
Rectangle is the most common among models. This body type has a straight waist, small chest, and the hips and shoulders measurements are the same.
Apple shaped women carry a little more weight around their tummy and breast. This body type usually has slim legs and a lack of a waistline.
If you are still not sure what body type you belong to, try this article on the chic fashionista website. It has more information on body shapes and how to figure out which one you belong to.
SO, now that you know your body type, it is time to discuss what type of dresses fit you the best. However, that is coming in the next post. For now, remember that it’s not just about being beautiful; knowing how to accentuate your beauty is the key.
